Who is Larry Carver and what is CALgraphy?

Starting photography over 40 years ago, Carver recently began focusing his photographic skills on Nature and Travel photography. This followed his retirement from Hutchinson Community College where he was the Director of Instructional Technology and Virtual Learning. It was during this time he established his studio, CALgraphy.

In the past few years he has won over 20 ribbons in the Amateur Photography Division at the Kansas State Fair including a Best of Show and Best of Show Runner-up.  In 2015, he won 2 First place and 2 Second place ribbons in the Professional Photography division at the Kansas State Fair. In 2016, he won 2 first place and one second place as well as Best of Show in the Professional Photography division.

His photography is an expression of what he saw in his mind at the moment the images were captured by the camera. Using applications like Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop CC, Carver replicates the mood of the image so that the scene photographed is reproduced on the computer, and finally on paper or canvas. Carver has had several of his images published in regional and national publications including the High Plains Journal, and his photographic works can be found in public and private collections in the area.

Carver, and his wife Joyce, have traveled throughout the United States and to Italy, Spain, France, Holland, Ireland, England, and Scotland where he focused on photographing cathedrals and churches as well as other traditional locations. Carver is also a retired Episcopal minister and currently an adjunct instructor for Fort Hays State University in the Department of Applied Technology. He is also a member of the Salt City Photography Club and an Artist member of the Hutchinson Art Center. Since 1972, Carver has been an ordained minister in the Episcopal Church serving several small congregations
